Lexington Farmer’s Market at The Summit

When I heard the Lexington Farmer’s Market was coming to the Summit (a new shopping development VERY close to home) I was beyond excited! Every Wednesday it will be set up in the Summit at Fritz Farm on the corner of Nicholasville and Man O War. Yesterday was the kickoff event with live music, giveaways, and lots of different vendors selling everything from flowers to wine to tomatoes. I took Savannah and we really enjoyed our time there, despite the 90 degree heat! The market is held in the Whole Foods parking lot, so we went in to get AC several times! Savannah’s highlights of the market were eating the fresh blueberries, seeing all the doggies, and eating a cereal bar from the free kids section at Whole Foods. Hmm seeing a pattern there?? She must get it from her mama! And what a great way to share a weekly tradition with your kids teaching them about the importance of eating local, eating healthy, and growing your own veggies!DSC08364Here are the goodies we bought! Can’t go wrong with this local baked bread from Quarles Farm.DSC08341
Look at this cute free tote that was one of the giveaways to the first 100 customers! It was designed by a local artist. DSC08320DSC08319DSC08334DSC08331DSC08329
As soon as I saw these green tomatoes, I immediately wanted to make fried green tomatoes. Living in the south would not be complete without them! They turned out so good. Here is the recipe! DSC08377DSC08328
Apparently, Lexington Pasta provides for the Lexington Pasta Garage, another local spot we need to check out sometime!DSC08326DSC08325DSC08323DSC08321DSC08338Savannah really loved the local blueberries!DSC08350And that cereal bar, well you can clearly see she enjoyed that as well!DSC08349
DSC08348DSC08358DSC08363
And meeting up with friends and their cute babes was one of my favorite parts!DSC08346DSC08355
We will be heading back out next Wednesday! Who wants to join us??

A day in the life of a ONE year old!

I thought it would be fun to share a little about our day. Savannah just turned one (which is crazy) and our day is usually jam packed full of fun! Read about our derby themed birthday party. We have somewhat of a routine, as much as you can with a baby! And wouldn’t you know, I keep reading that she is a toddler. I say NO WAY to that. I will keep saying baby, because that is where she is in our hearts! So whether you are debating having a baby, have a one year old, or have older kids, this is just a little peek into an average day (and night schedule) for us!DSC07723DSC07184DSC071527-7:30am: Wake up, nurse, play for about 10 minutes in crib until she needs us!
8am: Eat breakfast (Mommy drinks LOTS of coffee)
8:30am: Play in playroom
9am: Get ready for Stroller Strides (exercise)
9:30 – 10:30am: Stroller Strides class
10:30 – 11:00am: Play after class with friends
11:30am: Get home, nurse, snuggles, take nap
12:30pm: Wake, eat lunch
1:00pm: Run errands or play
3:00pm: Nurse
3:30pm: Nap
5:00pm: Dinner, play, snuggles
6:00pm: Bath, books, snuggles, snack
7:00pm: Bed (we started the cry it out progressive method around 5 months, blog post coming soon!)
3:00am: Nurse, snuggles
5:00am: Nurse, snugglesDSC07485DSC07329DSC07543DSC07552The nighttime feedings are an average, some nights better than others. I am still nursing (at 13 months) and loving the bonding aspect of it. This schedule would probably be a little different for the night time if not nursing.
I think my favorite part of having a one year old is watching her grow and develop a little personality. I can just look at her cute little legs learning to walk and her little fingers grasp toys, figuring them out. She motivates me to be a better person and keeps a smile on my face. And my husband works so hard between two jobs caring for us girls. We couldn’t ask for a better daddy and husband and we are truly blessed having such a happy, healthy girl! With Father’s Day coming up, we can’t wait to celebrate him! I have heard this before, but you enjoy every stage of your children’s lives. Do I miss the tiny baby? Well, there are pros and cons to each stage in my opinion. And for now, we are living in the moment and loving every minute of it!DSC07504DSC07763Here are a few of my favorite things to have with a one year old:
Amazon Prime Subscription!(We get discounted diapers, wipes, dog food (because who wants to carry that through the grocery) and coffee!) And you get Amazon Prime music, which has been amazing for our dance parties and car rides!
A mom tribe (you know who you are!)
Jogging stroller16602888_700215693493298_8531602755831921329_n
Pouch sippy tops (to avoid pouch spills)
Ikea high chair (easy to clean and travel with)
COFFEE (wait, did I already say that??)
Roomba vacuum (even if you don’t have a cat, ha!) We decided to get a ROOMBA instead of gifts last year for Christmas. BEST DECISION EVER!

Do you have a one year old? Please share below some of your favorite things or moments!

Savannah is ONE: A derby party!

I really can’t believe my baby girl is already one! I mean, didn’t we just bring her home from the hospital? You can read my birth story here. About two months ago I started planning her derby-themed birthday party. What is more fitting than celebrating her actual birthday on derby day?!

The feeling is pretty unreal to have a child, but then even more so to be celebrating her first birthday already. We couldn’t be happier to share this special day with all of Savannah’s closest friends and family. (We are missing baby Lydia in this picture, darn naps!)savyparty6DSC06985DSC06801
So many people came with handmade hats and bows! It made the party so much fun! I sewed and hot glued mine and Savannah’s. We even had matching flowers and feathers. DSC06797
And ‘my person’ Kat came from Louisville with her sweet family. This friend traveled the day before to help me with party planning. I love you so much! It is rare to find such great friends like you!DSC06842DSC06839What better way to celebrate upcoming Mother’s Day with your own mama who is staying all week after the party! DSC06830DSC06828A derby party wouldn’t be complete without betting, right? Well, I bet on Blue and he won our hearts with this adorable little jockey harness. And if Dan and I would have actually stuck with our original horse picks, (his #5, mine #1 for Savannah’s first birthday) we could have been rich! hahaDSC06827I painted this wooden jockey silk to go with the party and to use each year after when derby rolls around! Savyparty2These hot brown bites were a hit, and approved by my smallest judge! They were super easy to make and a great addition to any Kentucky party! Served with mint julep lemonade, Raising Cane’s chicken fingers, and mint topped fruit salad.

DSC06819If you are here in Lexington, Ky I would recommend using Ashley with One Smart Cookie! We were so impressed with these adorable custom derby cookies. They were almost too cute to eat, and so delicious! I ended up making the cupcakes and they also turned out great. (Basic yellow cake mix, and this amazing buttercream frosting recipe with added cream cheese) I added a bit of food coloring to achieve the pinkish color and added little blue gemmies.DSC06786DSC06784DSC06785DSC06867And this big one year old ate the entire cupcake!! Savannah was blessed with lots of fun birthday presents. Some dolls, musical toys, swimsuits, a beach bag for Gamma’s house, jewelry, books, and much more!DSC06906savyparty4savyparty3I was lucky enough to get some snuggles from this little guy! And we were so glad to see some little boys around 🙂savyparty1Thank you again to all of our family and friends who drove from out of town and spent their day with us. And from those of you celebrating from afar! We love you all so much!

I would love to hear about your derby day! Please share below in the comments!

What I wish I knew before having my first baby

What i wish i knewThese last 7 weeks have been a true blessing from above. And wow, 7 weeks! Babies sure do grow up fast. All the fear of childbirth, the unknown, is nothing compared to the absolute joy of meeting your baby for the first time. I wanted to compile a list of things that I wish someone had told me before embarking on this crazy journey! I won’t even touch on the no sleep. So here goes…

>>You will fall in love with your husband all over again. The way he interacts with your baby and the way he looks at you as a new mom- pure love. Add in all the crazy hormones and you may even shed a few tears.SONY DSCDSC04817>>You will cry! I’m not talking just regular tears of joy, but for no reason tears! I remember hearing Savannah cry for the first time and I lost it. You have this sweet little baby to care for and last thing you want is for her to be in pain. Then you will cry again for no reason… just sayin! It is completely normal. You learn about it in childbirth classes, but it is real!
IMG_7052IMG_7086
>>Your body will seem foreign. After giving birth, I remember looking down at my belly to see what it looked like. I didn’t recognize it. It didn’t matter though. I was holding my baby in my arms and in pure contentment. Your boobs are going to get huge, full and uncomfortable and you will feel like a milk factory. It gets better! And on to the next point…

>>Breastfeeding! Just when you thought you read all the baby books, it will not prepare you enough. Your nipples will hurt, maybe even bleed. Your baby will be crying trying to latch and you will be screaming at the same time. At about the 3 week mark, it gets better, I promise! Hang in there mama, your baby needs you. So stock up on ice packs, Medela Disposable Nursing Bra Pads, and try the saline solution tip found here.

>>Ask for help! When family wants to come over, especially moms (they are seriously the best), learn from them and don’t take their tips as criticism. They have been there and actually do know a lot! Just watching my mom interact with my baby, I learned so much! If you can manage to get a 2 hour nap in, it makes such a difference.

>>All those cute outfits- you will have another opinion about some of them. Those cute newborn jeans I just had to buy from Old Navy when I was pregnant and that onesie with 50 snaps along the diaper area are just not being used. Stock up on swaddle wraps for sleeping and bibs! You can never have enough. Milk is a messy business.IMG_7119IMG_7121>>White noise. I think we received about 4-6 different sound machine stuffed animals, projectors and machines. Keep them all! You don’t know what your baby will like and it may change. Plus, if you have her stuff in multiple locations in your home, it will be helpful to have several. So far, this one is our favorite and we use it every night in our room next to her Rock n Play.

>>The glorious Rock n Play! Yes, yes and yes! Get one of these. We have a bassinet that we put her in to sleep for about 3 weeks and she was waking up so easily, even being swaddled. Once we started putting her to sleep in the Rock n Play, game over! She has been sleeping at night, only waking up for feedings. And I have talked to friends who did this too and their babies never had issues with sleeping in their cribs. DSC04831All of these opinions are my own and you may have a different experience with your baby. I hope that some of these tips will help you or at least reassure you that it definitely is a learning experience as you go. And when in doubt, play some Carrie Underwood and do some dancing!DSC04865Thanks for reading! Kim

Full Nursery Reveal: It’s a girl!

DSC04809Savannah and I are so excited to finally show you her full nursery reveal! Mama is 3 weeks away from bringing this little bundle into the world and her room is absolutely PERFECT!  If you remember, I shared the nursery inspiration board here, and the final nursery is much more than I imagined. With a lot of love from friends and family and some creative juices flowing, here it is!

First a look into her crib. I love how the white furniture really brightens up the room and allows for the colors of her toys, stuffed animals and decorations to pop. The Fisher Price Snugapuppy Calming Vibrations will be great for soothing the baby at home or on the go! It will match her other Snugapuppy Rock n Play! This little girl better be ready for doggies, since her big brother, Blue, can’t wait to meet her!

DSC04763When picking a theme for the nursery, I knew I wanted to stick with the vintage touches that I love with the subtle colors and tones. We went with woodland creatures, but more bunnies than anything. So many sweet stories about bunnies, and you can’t beat how cute they are. And bonus, having a baby in the spring because you can find all sorts of bunnies around Easter! This is on the nightstand beside her crib; a picture of mommy and daddy in Savannah, where we got engaged. The precious little shoes from one of mommy’s favorite stores- Marshalls! I can’t tell you how many times I found the perfect baby stuff there and cheaper than some of the big box stores. Hobby Lobby and Target are another few of my favorites for decorations, lamps, curtains, and all the other details.

DSC04771As soon as we found out we were having a girl, I knew this quote was going to be on the wall! So I handcrafted this sign! I love how the natural look of the wood paired with the white walls and furniture turned out. And the moment I laid my eyes on this bunny mobile I fell in love. It swings on its own with the gentle vibrations in the room.

DSC04768DSC04774DSC04775DSC04776DSC04781

This sweet baby journal is from The Morris Book Store here in Lexington, KY. I love its vintage feel and extra pockets. Baby girl will have all her little memories stored in there.

DSC04788

As soon as we found out we were pregnant, I wanted to keep all of her ultrasound pictures in a safe place!

DSC04790

This one’s my favorite- we have a fighter!

DSC04802DSC04800Here’s the laundry hamper! It makes me smile every time I see it. I had Dan, my husband, pick the animal for it and love which one he picked! (great choice in my opinion as the others were goats and some other silly animals!)DSC04780This vintage globe came from Reclaimology, formerly Repurposed Soul. I am happy anytime I can support their mission to give back to the local community and abroad.

Now to decide which outfits to pack… the hospital bag!DSC04797DSC04808We are ready as ever and can’t wait to meet our sweet baby girl, Savannah Reese, or as my dad would call her, baby cup! Hope you love your room as much as we do and can’t wait to start this journey with you!

Thanks for reading! Please share your comments below on what makes your baby’s nursery special!
