Raising money for our rescue animals

I was thrilled when I found out I was invited to the Woodford Humane Society Summer Gala to raise money for our rescue animals here in Kentucky. Having our rescue dog, Blue, has been one of the best things for our family. We can only guess the condition Blue was in when we rescued him, but he has come a long way. He use to be afraid of people. What dog is afraid of people?? It really is so sad to learn about these animals’ stories. When they started the auctions to raise money I was surprised to learn that even simple things we take for granted they are in need of, like a washer to keep their beds clean and warm.

The gala also had such a nice variety of silent auction items to bid on.

It was definitely the place for all things pup! Look at this adorable little treat jar and pet portrait.

Your ticket for the event includes dinner and two complimentary drink tickets. I tried their signature cocktail, the Bourbon Punch. With a cute little kitty on the picture, how could you choose anything else?

Dinner was buffet style followed by a dessert bar with macaroons and Kentucky bourbon bread pudding. Definitely a local favorite! My favorite macaroon was the pistachio, but if you know me, you could probably easily guess that.

After dinner, we mingled and took pictures on the lawn of Keeneland, such a beautiful venue for this event.

I hope you will join next year or consider a gift to the Woodford Humane Society. These animals need us just like we need them. Tell me a little about your rescue animal in the comments!

Cheers! And check out my friend’s page, the Bluegrass Blog to find more fun things to do locally and around Kentucky. She’s the kindest person and was so sweet to invite me to this fun event. Mama needed a night out!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday Blue!

birthdayblue

It has been one year since we adopted Blue! Time sure does fly! But what would I have done without him during this difficult year. He has been a blessing to our family and has provided so many laughs, smiles and kisses! It is crazy to think of where he has come in a year, from hiding in the bathroom to now following me around! He sure does love his new family! Today we celebrate his 5th birthday. He might get spoiled and get a bowtie. Do you remember Blue’s story? See the post when we got him and a few months later! He has been through a lot of fun times in the Spalding Family! Blue has even taught us a few things, simple really. Things like love, relaxation and patience!

Today we celebrate Blue, the silliest dog that we love to the moon and back! You’re my boy Blue!

You’re my boy Blue!

one month with bluetick

This weekend was 5 weeks since we adopted the sneaky, smart, lovable boy Blue. It is absolutely amazing how much he has come around in 5 short weeks from the first few days. Read about his first days here.

As of today, Blue has officially seen the whole house, including watching the UK game tonight. In between commercials he has stolen my 10 year old pink piggie slippers and managed to pull the eye off. Then as I wear them and have them next to me, he grabs one and runs off! What a stinker!

Blue follows both of us around and loves his walks. He could walk 4 times a day. I’m looking forward to our hiking adventures to come! Hopefully I can keep up with this silly dawg! He walks around whimpering when he is anxious and ready to walk. Or acts like a crazy person!

We’ve taught him to sit with his favorite treats, his doggie toothbrush treats. Now he walks around the house owning the place and sitting wherever he pleases. He is comfortable all over! So much different from the 72 hour bathroom hideout!

Here he is exhausted after one of our walks! He is in love with his new home! What a different life he must’ve had! Welcome home Blue!
